A Great Superhero to Have on Your Side.

(Part 2 of a 2 Part Blog by Hugh Chambers)

Following closely from Vitamin C comes another superhero immune defender, the magic mineral Zinc. It plays a very telling role in our immune defence. One of its special powers is the important role it plays in contributing to the normal maintenance of our immune system. Zinc scores big here by contributing to the protection of cells from oxidative stress from those nasty free radical invaders  that can attack and damage our cells.

Other super powers Zinc has include:

Brain Health: by contributing to normal cognitive function.

Reproductive Health: by contributing to normal fertility, reproduction and testosterone levels.

Digestive Health: By contributing to normal protein synthesis and carbohydrate and fatty acid metabolism.

Appearance: For those who want to look their best it contributes to the maintenance of normal skin, nails and hair.

Eye Health: It contributes to the maintenance of normal vision.

Tag Team for Immune Health

Like a dynamic duo, Zinc and Vitamin C work like a superhero tag team to help keep our immune system operating in a good normal way. They are very valuable components in helping keep us in a good state of immune health.  They can really stacks the odds in our favour of keeping our inner universe healthy and more resistant to external threats.

To C or Not to C that is the Question

With Vitamin C for optimum immune health it would probably be a good idea to take in 1 to 2 grams a day. That would be the equivalent of 10 to 20 oranges a day which for most of us would be out of the question. To get this amount of vitamin C daily it is probably easier taking it in the form of a health supplement.

There are many types of Vitamin C. Which then is the best?

For starters try and avoid Vitamin C with fillers, colourings or sweetened with refined sugar. Vitamin C supplements can come in many different forms, the main forms being tablets, capsules and powders. Probably the easiest form to swallow is the capsules.

Of particular interest here is a fat soluble form of Vitamin C found in a supplement called Radiance C. This is derived from Ascorbyl Palmitate a type of Vitamin C initially created by the cosmetic industry and found in makeup, skin creams, shampoos and conditioners.

Radiance C then combines the immune supporting properties of vitamin C with its collagen forming ability. This then makes it a real power player in our immune and skin health. It also has none of the undesirable elements we mentioned above, refined sugar etc. While the cosmetic industry has countless options of creams to have your skin looking its best, try not to overlook the role of a well-supported internal collagen- forming system can have on our skin.

Another type of Vitamin C worth taking a look at is Energy C a special vitamin C orange flavoured drink that has added vitamins and minerals making it a delicious addition to your daily diet. The ideal time to take it is when your energy is flagging around lunch time or before or after a work-out. For those who want to take in a lot of Vitamin C in a very cost effective way try using a form of sodium ascorbate known as Non Acid Vitamin C.  This is a very handy form of powdered vitamin C that you can mix with water or fruit juice.

The Zinc Question.

An excellent way to make sure you are getting in enough Zinc to help support your immune system is to take a zinc supplement.

Educohealth Zinc Citrate is a zinc supplement in a convenient to use capsule form. Taking 1 to 2 capsules a day will help supply your immune system with enough Zinc to help it function in a healthy normal way. It too has no undesirable additives, flavourings or added sugar.
