Obesity

Globicity – The Overweight Global Phenomena

When you go to your average supermarket you will see foods literally from all around the world. Pasta from Italy, rice from Asia, coffee from South America etc. It’s truly amazing the variety of food we now have available to us. Yet we now appear to be paying a price for this bounty of goodies.

The World Health Organization has coined a term for the obesity epidemic now sweeping the world. They call it ‘Globesity’.

  • According to their 2016 estimated global figures, more than 1.9 billion adults, 18 years and older, were overweight. Over 650 million of these were obese.
  • Since 1980 the rate has tripled in some areas of North America, United Kingdom, Middle East, Eastern Europe, China, Pacific Islands and Australasia.
  • Amazingly overweight and obesity kills more people than underweight in countries where most of the world’s population live.

The Department of Health in Ireland conducted a Healthy Ireland Summary Report in 2019.

The report found just over one third of people (37%) have a normal weight with 60% of adults here either overweight or obese. The sad fact is that even children are falling into this trap. According to a “Growing up in Ireland” national longitudinal study of five year olds, approximately one child in every five in is now overweight. Overweight children can also find it hard to lose weight as they get older, resulting in them having a life long battle with weight / body image.

Obesity – Is that fair?

Being overweight or obese also puts a person at risk of future health conditions like diabetes, heart disease etc. These figures paint a very gloomy picture of the future health of Ireland. UK figures are equally alarming with 62% of the population being overweight. The UK also has the highest rates of obesity in Europe. In the US approximately 70% of all adults are overweight. The larger food portion sizes may have something to do with this. The World Health Organization state a lot of this is down to people eating more energy-dense, nutrient-poor foods with high levels of sugar and saturated fats. This, combined with reduced physical activity, has led to increased obesity rates.

Don’t Become another Slimming Casualty

There is a bewildering amount of information now available for how best we can lose that unwanted weight. It can be very confusing to the average person when confronted by it. Sadly when we put much of what you read into practice, it doesn’t come up with the desired results. One of the big misconceptions in losing weight is that the person usually thinks that if they lose weight on the scales they will be in good shape. They don’t realise that often the first thing they lose is muscle.

The Perils of Losing Muscle

Muscle helps make up the firm tissue in the body – the parts that help give us shape. What’s the point in losing the parts you want to keep? When you lose muscle you will often not look very well e.g. have a gaunt face, a skinny neck and little or no energy. You can be at the “right” weight but in the wrong shape. How often have you heard it said that the person looked better before they lost the weight? This can also lead to the lowering of the metabolic rate and reducing the body’s natural ability to burn fat for energy. It’s a classic case of shooting yourself in the foot. This is pretty tough to take after all the hard work and sacrifice a person does to get in shape. Sadly they are often so fixated on the scales that don’t really see themselves properly. But who wants to look good on the scales yet bad in the mirror?

The Scales Tip against Us

After the Second World War there was a dramatic change in how people lived. The standard of living started to go up and people began to experience a level of financial freedom like never before. By the time the 1960’s kicked in “The Baby Boomer Generation” as they were called, now had access to affordable, fast foods, convenience foods and tasty goodies. They indulged and it wasn’t long before many had a whole new body shape that was not to their liking. They then looked to find ways to lose the weight and become their former self. Suddenly gyms started to open up to help train people to get them into shape.

This was a whole new concept in Ireland and into this came a young guy in his early 20’s who had a huge interest in nutrition training and getting into shape. The guy knew his stuff as he had only recently won the Mr Ireland Bodybuilding title and he was also a martial arts expert and yoga practitioner. His name was Tony Quinn and one of his biggest goals was to work in a gym training people and getting them into shape. With his background in health and fitness he easily got the gym job he was looking for. Quite quickly he developed a name for himself for getting people into shape. He used a novel approach of getting the person to lose fat and gain muscle. Not worrying too much about the scales he concentrated more on getting the person to lose the bad bits (the fat), while firming up the good bits (the muscle). This helped the person get in their best shape.

As time went on his approach evolved and during the process of this evolution he trained numerous figure and physique champions including a number of Mr and Miss Irelands. The approach he used was a holistic health approach of wanting the person to improve not just in shape but also in general health. In the process he came up with a lot of special health supplement formulations to help keep people in their best shape and state of health. The products he designed are totally unique, formulated specifically to work along with the body’s natural process of helping it stay in shape.

The system Tony Quinn pioneered evolved into the present day Educohealth. Many of his customers have been using the Educohealth products for 40 years or more. With Tony, shape not weight has always been the king and that continues to this day. Now approximately 50 years later he is still as passionate about helping people get into their best shape while at the same time achieving a higher level of health. In light of this we would like to share.

Help Your Body Help You Shape Up

Have you ever noticed that you weigh less in the morning than you did at night? This is because your body’s fat-burning process largely works at nighttime. The good news is there is now a natural substance that may boost this process when taken on an empty stomach before bedtime. When you adopt this approach you safely and effectively allow your body to metabolise fat for energy at a greater rate than before. The great thing is that your body will selectively burn fat, not firm tissue. This is a completely different approach to reducing fat, because you are not starving or breaking down your muscle tissue.

This natural substance is called Amino-Or. Do you know that your body burns energy even while you are watching TV or sitting at a desk? That is what is known as your resting metabolism, or metabolic rate. The more firm tissue (muscle) you have, the higher your metabolism. There is now a special protein formula that has been designed to directly benefit your metabolism. It contains the very building blocks of protein, which in turn form the firm tissue in your body, benefiting your energy levels. Most fat in the body is actually burned by firm tissue, protecting the firm tissue with this protein formula helps avoid any fat rebound often associated with weight loss programs. This special protein formula is called Amino-Energise.

Binge Eating – What to do

Binging on unhealthy sugar-laden foods can often be the Achilles heel of many weight loss programs. You get that craving for something sweet and can’t stop yourself indulging in these tasty disasters. This can then derail you from your program trapping you in the ‘weight on weight off ‘cycle. One way out of this is to use tasty healthy substitutes that help support you in your getting in shape program. An ideal addition here is a special protein formula derived from milk that tastes delicious and also helps support our muscle tone. This protein formula is called Proform and has the added benefits of being high in protein and calcium and low in fat. It also tastes delicious in strawberry, vanilla and real cocoa flavours.

So next time you get this urge to go binge on sugar-laden goodies reach for the Proform instead and keep on your winning ways. You can make it up like a dessert. Once you stick that spoonful in your mouth and taste its deliciousness you will be a firm fan.
