It helped save British sailor’s lives, great scientists raved about it and we would be dead (Lost) without its vital immune support.
The Magic ingredient is Vitamin C.
This wonder nutrient first came to prominence back in the 1700s. During this time the British Navy had a huge problem with their sailors dying from the disease scurvy.
During the “Age of Exploration” (from 1500 to early 1800’s) it is reputed that almost 2,000,000 seamen died of scurvy.
Legendary explorer Vasco da Gama’s crew fell foul to scurvy in 1499.
A staggering 116 of his 170 men died mostly due to scurvy.
The famous explorer Magellan too fell foul to scurvy in 1520 with 208 of his 230 strong crew, mainly falling to scurvy.
During the 18th century alone more British sailors died of disease than from military action.
Royal Navy surgeon James Lind discovered when he gave the men vitamin C-rich oranges and limes they had a remarkable recovery. Up to this scurvy claimed the lives of many sailors on almost all long voyages.
Not long afterward the British Navy adopted a policy of including citrus juice in the men’s daily rations.
This led to the nickname ‘Limeys’ given to the British sailors.
This led to the end of the scourge of scurvy.
Nobel Prize Winner
One of the big champions of the benefits of Vitamin C was Nobel Prize-winning scientist Dr. Linus Pauling.
Pauling wrote several books including Vitamin C the common cold and the flu and Cancer and Vitamin C.
Pauling himself was such a fan that he personally took in up to 10,000 mg of vitamin C a day to help keep him operating at his best.
He was an American Icon: Two time Nobel Prize winner, chemist, chemical engineer, and peace activist. New Scientist dubbed him one of the 20 greatest scientists of all time.
Albert Einstein said of him “Ah that man is a real genius”
In later years Pauling discovered the immense health possibilities of Vitamin C.
This led him to devote much of the latter part of his years to promoting the benefits Vitamin C and orthomolecular medicine (the practice of maintaining human health through the use of nutritional supplements).
It obviously worked well for him as he lived productively to the ripe old age of 93.
The Brilliant Mind that Discovered Vitamin C
The person who first discovered Vitamin C was brilliant Hungarian Physiologist Albert Szent-Gyorgyi. This amazing man won the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 1937 for this great discovery.
A staunch believer in human rights he donated his prize money to the Finnish resistance to the Russian invasion of their country in 1939.
He helped bring to light the amazing benefits to be had.
Particularly interesting is his work in relation to serious illness research and the potential protective support Vitamins C and E could give to the damaging effect of free radicals on the cells.
He too lived to the ripe old age of 93.
What is Vitamin C?
It is a water-soluble nutrient found in many fruits and vegetables.
Unlike most animals, humans don’t produce their own Vitamin C. We need to get it either from our food or from a food supplement.
It performs a multitude of actions in our body among them it contributes to the normal function of the immune system, skin, cartilage, nervous system, collagen formation, teeth, and gums.
It also contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue and the normal functioning of the nervous system.
Altogether it is a big hitter in our body’s natural defense system to help keep us at our healthiest.
When given to those poor sailors it helped produce some startlingly good results.
Vitamin C in the Modern World
Today the practice of taking Vitamin C in supplemental form is pretty widespread. Just do an internet search and you get all this information on all different types.
It can often be linked to other searches for liquid collagen, collagen peptides, hydrolyzed collagen, collagen protein, etc
A Standout Performer
In that time they have explored the different types of this Vitamin until usually settling for an oil-soluble form of Vitamin C called ascorbyl palmitate.
The big advantage of this form of Vitamin C over others is that being fat-soluble it lasts much longer in the body than conventional vitamin C.
Radiance C is also in capsule form which makes it easy to take.
Benefits to Be Had
If you are tired or fatigued Radiance C helps reduce both of these.
If you want your skin, teeth, gums, and collagen formation to be at their normal best Radiance C is a big player here.
In a time when so many people are concerned with their immune health Radiance C supplies important support to the immune system.
With many people going through a stressful time Radiance C is a valuable support for the normal function of the nervous system.
All told it is a great option to take if you want to be at your normal best.
Take the Next Step
The British sailors found it an answer to their prayers.
Those great minds helped bring its benefits to our lives.
It’s no wonder Vitamin C is probably the most widespread nutrient on the market today.
Your skin, gums, teeth, and immune system will be glad you did.
